PROGRESS

In the autumn of 2020 ‘temporary emergency active travel measures’ changes were made to Leatherhead town centre. In January 2022 these changes were made permanent by Surrey County Council’s Local Committee in Mole Valley, after consultation with both local residents and business owners.

The changes included:

  • the extension of the existing pedestrian zone to include Sunday 10:00 to 16:30 (supported by 85% of surveyed residents and 69% of surveyed businesses)
  • the removal of parking on the High Street at all times, to reduce vehicle movements
  • loading and unloading in designated bays from 16:30 to 10:00 Monday to Sunday
  • allow cyclists to access the High Street during the pedestrian hours.

NEXT STEPS

We are now liaising with Surrey County Council to implement some seating and greening solutions, to support the local biodiversity and maintain a healthy town centre environment.
