Randalls Road cycle route

Unfortunately the cycle route proposed as part of the Sustainable Transport Package cannot proceed at this time. Following detailed modelling by Surrey County Council, the scheme did not reach the level eligible for funding from Coast to Capital LEP and:

  • Private landowners had concerns about granting public access rights across their land between Springfield Drive business park and Cleeve Road
  • There were design issues as a result of insufficient space along Waterway Road from the town centre to the Leisure Centre

‘Access for All’ funding

As part of the Government’s Inclusive Transport Strategy, announced 25th July 2018, funding was released by the Department of Transport for the Access for All Programme. This programme enables improvements to take place at selected smaller rail stations that will make them more accessible.

Following nomination in 2018 it was announced in April 2019 that Leatherhead would be one of 73 stations to receive funding. The Department of Transport will work with the transport operator and partners including MVDC to target investments where they are needed most and where they can deliver the greatest impact.

NEXT STEPS

We will explore the opportunity to introduce demand-responsive bus service linking the QEF development, Randalls Road and the town centre.
